Marzipan Cherry-Almond Tart

We've been hosting a young lady from Germany for the past 10 months. Her name is Sabine. She was sponsored by a program that allowed her to observe classes at a university for a semester, and then get a job here in the U.S. while improving her English and learning our culture.

When Sabine first arrived, the German coordinator at the local university organized a welcome party for all of the German students, their host families, and the people at the university that are involved with the German exchange program.

Everyone was asked to bring a dish to share. One of the German ladies brought a delicious Almond Tart, and was gracious enough to share the recipe with me. When she told me how easy it was to make, I couldn't believe it!

Here is everything that you will need to make my version of this delicious tart.

You will need a cast iron skillet. The lady who shared the recipe told me that she received the recipe from an old lady, who INSISTED that a cast iron skillet be used. When she told the lady that she didn't have one - the old lady gifted her one of hers!

Line the cast iron skillet with non-stick aluminum foil. Drain the cherries.

Melt the butter in the microwave. Add the sugar to the melted butter.

Mix well with a wooden spoon. Add the eggs and almond extract, and mix well.

Sift in the flour and salt. Mix well.

Pour the batter into the prepared skilled. Top with cherries.

Sprinkle with the sliced almonds. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake in preheated oven for 40 - 45 minutes. THAT'S IT! How easy is that?

    1. Isn't it delicious Julie? The original recipe didn't have the cherries, but I had a can in the pantry just screaming to be used in something. It is just SO easy to make!

  2. That does look delicious and the tart part looks almost custardy. Love the story about the cast iron skillet. I LOVE mine and don't know how I managed without it. I love to saute and bake in it! I'll be making this one for sure. So easy! I love easy!!

  3. It is SO easy Renee! It is the reason that I went out and bought myself a cast iron skillet - no lie!
